Anthropometric Assessment of Canthal Distances and Canthal Index of South Indian Region: A Cross-Sectional Study

Background: Orbitofacial anthropometric measurements can be used in identification of gender and ethnicityin forensic anthropology. It also plays a crucial role plastic surgery for identifying geneticsyndromes. Canthus is the term employed to explain either corner eyes. Inner canthus alsocalled as medial or nasal canthus. Hence this study undertaken find out normative inner canthal andoutercanthal distance measurement population South Indian region.Aims Objectives: The present was done normal outercanthal distanceand index ethnic origin analyse sexual dimorphismin them.Materials Method: This descriptive cross-sectional conducted on 200 volunteers agegroup 18-25 years both sexes belonging region. Innercanthal distance(ICD) Outercanthal distance(OCD) were measured using digital vernier caliper.Canthal calculated. All thedata analysed SPSS 16.0 version software correlated with gender.Results: Mean innercanthal found 2.64 ±0.51 cm males 2.51 ±0.46 femalesrespectively study. There significant dimorphism ICD . showedoutercanthal 10.35± 0.81cm 10.19 ±1.02 females respectively. Canthalindex 25.71 ±4.91 24.83±7.83 females. no inOCD Canthal index.Conclusion: observed that all significantly higher than southIndian origin. And there intercanthal distance.
